The Covid-19 pandemic has hit disadvantaged groups in society much harder than others, widening the health gap between socio-economic groups. In a new report and at an upcoming conference, leading scientists discuss how a better understanding of the disparities between groups can help reduce health inequity.
The report examines old and new research methodologies and concludes that a new generation of methods will help us to better understand health inequalities in Europe. These newer methods should complement conventional research methodologies, leading to a deeper appreciation of causal relationships. To make use of the full potential of these methods, however, the academies argue that investment in data infrastructures will be required.
