After moving to London in 1979, he made a name for himself internationally with his penetrating photographs of such musical greats as Miles Davis, David Bowie and U2 band members. He seeks out people who speak to him through their art, from Gerhard Richter to Robert de Niro, Nelson Mandela, Tom Waits, Kate Moss, William S. Burroughs, Stephen Hawking and Frank Sinatra.

Corbijn has ventured beyond photography to design record covers, posters, logos and stage props. He also directed more than 80 music videos for Nirvana, U2, Johnny Cash and Depeche Mode and, more recently, feature films (Control, The Americans, Life, A Most Wanted Man) featuring such actors as George Clooney and Philip Seymour Hoffman. In 2012, he received the Cultuurfonds Prijs.
