Jolanda Spoel has acted with various companies, including Rotterdam's Het Waterhuis and Bonheur. She was also the artistic director of the youth theatre company Rotterdams Lef for many years and was the force behind its high-profile stagings of Kwaad Bloed (2006) and Brandgrens (2007).

Spoel has shown herself to be maker and pioneer in talent development for young performing artists, for example by co-founding Maas theater en dance, which combines production and programming (for young audiences) under one roof.
She connects traditional art forms with the forms of expression favoured by the young and by people from bi-cultural backgrounds. One outstanding example was the partnership between Maas theater en dans and the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra. Spoel is currently the general director of Bijlmer Parktheater.
