Born in South Korea and adopted by Dutch/Austrian parents, Meijer started playing the harp when she was nine. As an eleven-year-old, she was admitted to the Young Talent department of the Utrechts Conservatoire and by the age of 14 she was performing with symphony orchestras. As an innovative musician, Meijer seeks out rare classical solo orchestral repertoire and experiments with electronic music, theatrical music, jazz and avant rock. She has performed with Philip Glass, Laurie Anderson and Òlafur Arnalds, among others, and plays pieces by Radiohead in classical venues.

Composer JacobTV wrote the suite Cities Change the Songs of Birds, about New York's poorest, especially for her. This work, which included samples of the conversations of drug-addicted women with criminal records, caused a scandal in the music world.

Meijer has received many awards, including two Gold and a Platinum record for the album Metamorphosis / The Hours, with pieces by composer Philip Glass. She is the only classical artist to have three albums reach the top 10 in the Dutch rock album charts.
