Artist and filmmaker Nanouk Leopold (born 1968) reports on what people feel about the times in which they live. In the past 15 years, she has established herself as one of the most successful screenwriters and directors in the Netherlands.
Her screenplays, both original and adaptations of other works, are individual and artistic in tone. Each one is different from the rest, but all clearly bear her signature, in which she succeeds in combining her background as an artist with the craft of writing/directing.
Her first film, Îles Flottantes (2000), competed for the Rotterdam Film Festival's Tiger Award. Her second film, Guernsey (2005), won two Gouden Kalveren and was selected for the Cannes Film Festival. Her next three films, Wolfsbergen (2007), Brownian Movement (2010) and Boven is het stil (2013), were selected for the Berlin Film Festival and won multiple awards at international film festivals.
In 2008, she began making video installations under the name LeopoldEmmen, in partnership with visual artist Daan Emmen.
