The choreographies of Conny Janssen (born 1958) are inventive, powerful and moving. They are an unpredictable voyage of discovery every time for both her dancers and her audience. Urban life is an important theme in her current work: rugged, bold and alert.
Janssen trained as a dancer at the Rotterdam Dance Academy but even during her dance career, she began to develop into a remarkable choreographer. Her breakthrough came in 1991 when she choreographed ELOÏ ELOÏ. The next year she founded her own company, CONNY JANSSEN DANST, based in Rotterdam. Today it is one of the leading modern dance companies in the Netherlands.
Conny Janssen likes to work on location, for example in factory halls or car parks, and she frequently collaborates with artists and institutions from the worlds of photography, film, architecture, theatre and music. Conny Janssen Danst is also a breeding ground for young talent.
Apart from choreographing performances for her own company, Conny Janssen creates guest choreographies for other Dutch dance companies. Her work has received numerous awards and is performed at Dutch and international festivals.
