Mezzo-soprano Tania Kross (born 1976) stood out even as a student at the Utrechts Conservatorium by winning several competitions. After graduating, she quickly made a career for herself, especially in operas.
She sang the lead in Carmen at both the Staatsoper in Stuttgart and the Glyndeborn Festival and has performed on numerous stages from Germany to New York. She also performs regularly in the Netherlands with the Nationale Reisopera and the Dutch National Opera, but she also sings other works in other genres.
Kross has released a number of CDs, of which the first, Corazon, was awarded an Edison Muziekprijs. Kross is a frequent television guest, where she communicates her love of music to new audiences. She is also an ambassador for the Instrument Depot of the Leerorkest, a project that collects instruments for children.
As a Curaçaoan, her dream was to produce an opera in Papiamentu. Her dream came true with Katibu di Shon (Slave and Master), which premiered in 2013.
